Are
You Ready to Get Serious About Your Photography?
Okay,
so you’ve bought yourself your first digital SLR, and
you’ve taken a bunch of decent photos. But now you want
expand
your photography by getting some important accessories that will
greatly assist you in your photography.
Tripod
First things first, one of the most important pieces of kit you need is
a good sturdy tripod.
A tripod is important if you want to take photographs using long
exposures (for example night scenes, or smooth flowing water), or if
you want to take photos which include yourself in the scene.
Additional Lenses
If you got a lens with your camera as part of a kit, then you probably
found it fine to begin with for a lot of your pictures. However, there
is a lot more you can do if you have different lenses for specific
purposes, for example:
• Telephoto
lens – for zooming
close into scenes from far away.
• Wide
angle lens – useful
for big landscape shots.
• Macro
lens – for close-up
photography, e.g. insects or flowers.
Flash
Most cameras come with their own built-in flash. However, these do have
their limitations. For professional flash photography, it is better to
buy an additional flash
to fit onto the camera.
Memory Cards
The more photography you do, the more you will need additional memory
cards. As a minimum, I would advise getting at least two 4GB
memory cards. That way, you can
have one in the camera while you
are processing the photos from the other card.
Additionally, it is well worth getting a USB memory card reader, as
this will allow for much faster transfer of photos than just plugging
your camera into the computer.
Software
If you are serious about getting into digital photography, then you
need to get into digital image editing. Consider getting yourself a
professional photo editing program such as Photoshop.
